Jay was born and raised in a small town in South Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia in Athens, where he received his undergraduate degree in 2006. He later attended The Charleston School of law. While in law school, Jay was a member of the James L. Petigru American Inn of Court, Mock Trial Team, School Ambassador, and served as President of the Sports & Entertainment Law Society, in addition to participating in the school's externship program with the United States Attorney's Office in Charleston. In recognition of his public service and leadership, Jay was inducted into The Forensics Club in 2011.
Jay served as Assistant Solicitor at the Second Circuit Solicitor's Office in Aiken, South Carolina for over four and a half years. As lead counsel, Jay handled the prosecution of both misdemeanor and complex felony cases. Jay returned to Charleston in the fall of 2018, joining Cobb Dill & Hammett as an associate practicing in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, and litigation.
Jay is a member of the South Carolina and Charleston Bar Associations, The South Carolina Association of Justice, and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. When he is not working, Jay likes to spend as much time as he can on the go. He enjoys traveling, fishing, spending time with his family, and trying to keep up with his eight nieces and nephews.
