Cobb Dill & Hammett, LLC Fighting
for Your Rights in Greer, SC

When an accident comes without warning, even the most prepared person can fall victim. One moment, you're walking to a restaurant after a long day of work. The next moment, someone else's negligence and carelessness change your life forever. Personal injury victims aren't just the victims of negligence they suffer from pain, concern over family and ability to work. Often, these victims do not have the luxury of worrying about work and family, because they're clinging to life in an ER. Without a personal injury attorney in Greer, SC, by their side, they mistakenly provide official statements to insurance agencies and accept settlement offers that only account for a fraction of what they have lost.

If you have recently been hurt in an accident, you may be asking questions like:

  • "What happens now?"
  • "How will I pay for my hospital bills?"
  • "Will I get fired from my job?"
  • "Will I be able to function independently ever again?"

With more than 100,000 car accidents in South Carolina every year, we hear these questions every day. Our hearts hurt for those who are suffering due to no fault of their own. Accident victims are not only left with questions like those above; they're also forced to deal with costs associated with medical bills, car repair, follow-up appointments, and loss of income.

While reading these facts can be bleak, there is a silver lining. South Carolina law dictates that those who are found responsible for your pain and suffering may be obligated to pay for your expenses. Cobb Dill & Hammett, LLC exists for that exact reason to make sure that negligent parties are held accountable. We fight on your behalf to make sure you get the compensation you deserve. We aren't afraid to go toe-to-toe with greedy insurance agencies who do not have your best interests at heart.

As such, personal injury victims are entitled to receive a financial reward that equals those damages.

What Our Clients Say

The Role of Negligence in Your
Greer Personal Injury Case

If there were one common truth that we can count on, it's that life is unpredictable. Sometimes, accidents just happen. However, when recklessness and negligence come into play in situations where accidents cause personal injuries, the negligent party can be held responsible under South Carolina law. For victims to have a chance at compensation, the party responsible for the accident must be proven to be negligent. When a party or parties are negligent, they fail to take appropriate care when performing an action, like driving an automobile.

 Car Accident Attorney Greer, SC
At Cobb Dill & Hammett, LLC, our team works to prove negligence
for our clients by proving:
  • The defendant had an obligation to look out for your safety.
  • The defendant did not uphold that duty.
  • There was causation between the defendant's breach of duty and the injuries you sustained.
  • You suffered real damages.

After an accident occurs, it is critical to take certain steps to help prove the responsible party's negligence and maximize the compensation you rightly deserve.

Steps to Maximize Compensation
After an Accident in Greer, SC

All too often, car wreck victims don't get the compensation they need because they failed to take the proper steps after their accident. Don't let this be you. By having comprehensive records of your car accident and its aftermath, you have a much better chance of protecting your rights and maximizing compensation for your bills and injuries. If you have been injured in an automobile accident in Greer, follow these steps before doing anything else:

1.

Go to a Doctor

First and foremost, seek medical attention for any injuries that you have sustained. You might not realize it now, but your injuries may be more complex and serious than you think. Damage like head trauma and back injuries are not easy to diagnose on your own and sometimes take time to surface. A full medical examination will help reveal the extent of your injuries, lead to a quicker recovery, and help document the injuries you sustained. This last part is essential to prove the significance of your injuries.

 Law Firm Greer, SC
2.

File an
Accident Report

The second step you should take is to report your injuries to the correct authorities. The authorities change depending on the circumstances of your accident. If you were involved in a car wreck in Greer, you should file your report with the highway authorities and any associated insurance agencies. Regardless of where you were injured and how the wreck occurred, the biggest takeaway here is to file a report. That way, you have an established, official record of the incident that can be referred to down the line.

Personal Injury Attorney Greer, SC
3.

Preserve Evidence
if Possible

Personal injury cases in Greer are won with evidence. It might sound like the job of the police, but it's important that you try to secure any evidence that you can collect relating to your accident, especially if you are injured. Evidence in auto accident cases tends to disappear quickly. By preserving evidence soon after the accident, it can be used in court. For example, if you cannot get a witness statement immediately after your wreck, their testimony may come across as less reliable. Completing this task on your own can be quite difficult, especially after a serious accident. That's why it's so crucial to complete the last step below.

What is Cartwright Food Hall?

Basically, the food hall houses multiple local restaurants in one location with a common dining area. What does this mean for families? Everyone gets what they want. You can even order from your table via convenient QR codes rather than waiting in multiple lines.

So, if your kids really want empanadas but you are really in the mood for sushi and your visiting mother-in-law thinks cajun food sounds like a great idea and then after all that talk you think it’d be a really good idea to go somewhere with some local brews, everyone can be happy at Cartwright.

There are multiple restaurants on one wall with common seating spread out over two floors, as well as an outdoor dining area. Restrooms are available upstairs and downstairs.

Note that the food hall is actually two buildings. Both White Wine and Butter and Trade Street Tap Room are located in the old carriage house behind the main building. Just walk through the food hall and out the back doors and you’ll be right in front of the carriage house doors.

We love the seating upstairs by the windows overlooking Trade Street! What a treat to get that view of historic Trade Street with our breakfast!

GREER, S.C. —

The city of Greer is addressing the potential sale of Victor Gym and Park.

City council gave initial approval this week to sell the city-owned property to Meridian Property Purchaser.

The proposal still faces another vote by council before the deal can be finalized.

“The main reason for considering a sale of this property is to accommodate the demand for our recreational services. The growth Greer has experienced in recent years has outgrown the Victor Facilities,” City Administrator Andrew Merriman said. “The City is exploring options to create a new, multi-use sports and event facility to accommodate those needs. We are committed to doing our due diligence in finding a purchaser who will deliver a project that will provide the right mix of residential and commercial uses to support the vitality of our growing city.”

Here are the answers to some questions that are posted on the city's website:

Why is the City selling the property?

Continued programming on this site is unsustainable. As a result of our growth and the demand for recreational services, our ability to serve those needs are limited given the size of the facilities at Victor Park. We have outgrown the space and need to expand to meet the recreational needs of our growing community.

Recommended

Former South Carolina day care director charged with faking employee background checks, officials say

With recent improvements to Greer Station through the CenterG project, making the property available for a residential or mixed-use project would continue the renovation and improvement of the central business district and expand the pedestrian-friendly nature of Greer Station. Also, part of the City’s Smart Growth strategy is to increase density in the central business district, which this would help accomplish.

Why not simply rebuild on the site?

Rebuilding on the site to accommodate our current and future needs would still require the removal of the ballfield and basketball courts to accommodate for the required parking.

How will the proceeds of the sale be used?

Income from the sale of the property will fund infrastructure, be that in the form of utilities, pedestrian safety or capital facilities.

Where will softball/baseball games be played?

The City’s Recreation facilities, which currently include Country Club Road Park and Century Park for baseball and softball, as well as the Suber Road Complex, will be complemented by renovations at H.R. Turner Park that include a new ballfield and expanded amenities for both players and spectators. Turner Park is located on Virginia Ave., 1.4 miles from Victor Gym.

How will gym facilities be replaced short and long term?

The City has maxed out the capacity of the current space at Victor Gym. Planning for a new sports and events center will allow the City to create a multi-use facility to meet the needs of current and future recreation and athletic programming.

The City of Greer intentionally negotiated a due diligence period for this project of [300] days in an attempt to create a smooth transition from the current facility to new, more modern facilities capable of handling the City’s growing needs. The goal is that there will be no interruption of services for those who take full advantage of the City of Greer’s recreation amenities.

What will happen to the Creative Advancement program and summer camp?

Should timing make it necessary, alternative space will be made available to accommodate these valuable programs in the short term with the expectation of locating both in a new permanent setting in the future.

What about the outdoor basketball court and playground?

The City is working on options to relocate the outdoor courts to a convenient location in the Victor Community. Basketball courts for public use are currently available at Greentown Park, B.P. Edwards Park and Wards Creek Park. Those facilities, in addition to Victor Heights Park, Greer City Park and the Center for the Arts Park all offer quality play structures for young people.

What project is anticipated for that location?

The highest and best use of this property is for mixed use, residential, or commercial. Through the use of a development agreement, the City will be able to determine whether a prospective project meets the desired current and future use for the property.

While the City of Greer is taking steps to enter into an agreement to ultimately redevelop this property, until all due diligence is completed by the prospective purchaser, the City of Greer cannot be certain that this redevelopment will occur. Regardless of the outcome of this opportunity, the City of Greer remains committed to its plans to modernize and grow its recreational footprint to meet the needs of a growing City.

Is sufficient infrastructure in place to support a residential or mixed-use project?

Greer CPW has invested heavily in improving downtown infrastructure over the past decade. The property’s access to Highway 101 provides ideal ingress/egress. The townhomes constructed on Park Ave. have been a welcome addition while having little impact to traffic and utilities in the area.

As with any development in Greer, a Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) and environmental research will be conducted prior to any construction on the site. A TIA will identify peak use time and outline necessary road improvements to mitigate a projects impact.

20,000 people expected to attend Greer’s Freedom Blast

...

GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – It’s almost that time of year, where we celebrate the red, white and blue. But one celebration in the upstate likes to start the Fourth of July festivities early.

The City of Greer is set to host it’s 15th annual Freedom Blast on Saturday at the City Park.

“Freedom Blast is totally different from your typical Fourth of July event, where you come out and celebrate the birth of our nation. We celebrate and honor the reasons for freedom,” Event Supervisor for the City of Greer, Robbie Davis said.

One of those reasons is the men and women who serve this nation.

“It’s our way and our community’s way to give back to the reasons for freedom and for those men and women who fought and served to provide us those freedoms. So, the city is really big on our veterans.”

By throwing a jammed packed four-hour celebration, “we’ll kick off with our sky divers and end with our world famous- we’ll say world famous firework show,” Davis said.

As well as everything in between, “Our Texas Roadhouse rib eating contest right into our live music,” Davis said. “On site we will also have mechanical rides for a nice cheap $5 dollars. So, we keep everything at our festival within a reasonable price for families and friends. Then we will have over 24 food venues.”

This year’s event is expected to draw in 20,000 people.

“We expect a huge crowd and each year it seems to keep getting bigger,” Davis said.

Those big crowds are also good for businesses like Abbotts Frozen Custard.

“Freedom Blast for Abbotts is huge, it’s always a big turnout, a lot of prep goes into it and it’s an all-hands-on deck kind of day,” Amanda Hopper, Abbots Frozen Custard owner, said. “It will be a huge day with lots and lots of people and lots of business for all of the businesses downtown.”

The City of Greer says there are some rules that people have to follow. No smoking, no pets and no drones.

Poinsett Street will be closed Saturday for the event. As for parking, the city said it will be tight but there is plenty of free downtown parking locations as well as side streets.

GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – It’s hard to put into words the kind of week Michael Sibert is having.

On Monday, the Greer-based chef and his wife welcomed a new son into the world. And on Wednesday, he makes his national television debut.

Sibert will be one of the contestants on Wednesday’s episode of Guy’s Grocery Games on Food Network.

Hosted by Guy Fieri, the show pits four chefs against one another in a three-round contest in which they must complete cooking challenges using ingredients found in a mock supermarket built for the show.

“It’s amazing,” said Sibert. “Obviously I can’t talk to everybody right now. But I can see through social media the reactions it is getting. So many people are proud of me and happy to see somebody they know get that type of spotlight. That is an amazing feeling.”

Sibert is a classically trained chef, and the owner of two restaurants based in Greer – White Wine and Butter and Anonymous Burgers, both located at Cartwright Food Hall on Trade Street. The former location offers a selection of freshly made pasta and authentic Cajun meals derived from Sibert’s grandmother-in-law’s own recipes from New Orleans.

To really test his skills to get ready for the show, Sibert said he started making late night grocery store runs after work, quickly tracking down ingredients and preparing meals on a timer.

“I know the people at Food Lion got tired of me coming in right before close. I would go every night after work and really tapped into my inner Guy’s Grocery Games.”

Even with the preparation, Sibert said the actual experience of being part of the show was unlike any other.

“The experience of being on Guy’s Grocery Games has given me the opportunity to represent my state, Greer, my friends and family,” he said. “They get to see me break down barriers and help build a bridge of hope in my community for the little boys and girls who were told they weren’t good enough to do certain things.

“I just want them to know anything is possible and hopefully this experience will continue to give me purpose, and opportunities to make an impact in people’s lives.”

White Wine and Butter is inviting locals who want to cheer on Sibert when the episode airs on Wednesday. The restaurant is hosting a watch party for the episode. The show starts at 9 p.m., but anyone interested in watching is encouraged to show up a bit earlier to get a table and enjoy a meal before the show begins.

Guy’s Grocery Games airs Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on Food Network.

GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – Former South Carolina Governor and 2024 presidential hopeful Nikki Haley was in Greer Thursday night for a rally.

Haley held the campaign event at the Cannon Centre in Greer.

The rally was Haley’s first in the Upstate since she announced her run for president in 2024.

Before the rally, Haley visited the 7NEWS studio for a one-on-one interview with Amy Wood covering a wide range of topics including abortion and the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Let’s focus on what we agree on,” said Haley of abortion. “We all agree that we shouldn’t have abortions up until the time of birth. We all agree that doctors and nurses who don’t believe in abortion shouldn’t have to perform them. We all agree that we need to have more access to contraception, not less.”

On immigration, Haley called for a national mandatory E-Verify program and also discussed support for defunding so called sanctuary cities.

“We need to make sure that we don’t do catch and release we need to do catch and deport,” said Haley.

Nikki Haley also touched on foreign relations.

Haley said that China is the country’s number one national security threat, “they are eating our lunch right now.”

When asked if peace was possible in Ukraine, Haley said “it would happen if Russia got out. It’s that simple.

Nikki Haley said she called Donald Trump before she began her campaign.

“What I told him is we need a new generational leader. We can’t keep dealing with this drama and the baggage of the past, we’ve got to start looking forward for the future.”

Haley has also expressed her support for mental competency tests for candidates 75 and older.

“This isn’t about being disrespectful. This isn’t about trying to hurt someone’s feelings,” said Haley. “This is about the fact that we need to make sure that everyone that goes to D.C. is at the top of their game.”

Haley said she hasn’t thought about a pick for vice president.

“I think if you look too far ahead, you get distracted from what the goal is right now,” she said. “I don’t think about VP stuff yet.”
